Trivia
Sally's last name (Carrera) comes from her car model, a 2002 996 Porsche 911. Not only that, "carrera" is Spanish for the word "race".
The Porsche 911 Carrera has a spoiler that normally only rises at highway speeds, but at one point in the movie, Sally purposefully lifts her tailfin to show off a pinstriped tramp stamp style tattoo beneath, which Lightning notices and points out.
In the UK cars magazine Top Gear, Sally was included in the magazine's list of the 10 sexiest cars in the World.[1]
Pixar originally wanted a classic model, but Porsche persuaded them to use a 2002 model. However, the 996 would be succeeded by the 997 before Pixar could finish the movie (note Sally's "melted" headlamps compared to the 997's classic rounded shape).
The character might have been inspired by the 1953 short story "Sally" by Isaac Asimov, which depicts a world with intelligent cars; the (human) narrator's favorite car is an elegant and feminine convertible named Sally.
Sally was once jokingly stated to have been Mater's fiancée.
Sally, the former LA lawyer, is a Porsche - pronounced to sound like "Portia," the female lawyer in Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice
